Let’s talk more about the colour temperature of light

Interior lighting designers have long understood that colours can influence our feelings, emotions and moods, making us feel happy or sad, hungry or relaxed.

It is the colour temperature that determines what kind of light it will be:

  • Warm
  • Cool
  • Daylight

The higher the colour temperature of the light, the bluer and colder it is.

When bright daylight enters our room in the morning, our bodies stop producing melatonin, a hormone that helps us fall asleep.

The sunlight continues to work throughout the day, improving our ability to concentrate and boosting our mood.

Colour temperature has a significant impact on our wellbeing, mood and performance.

To achieve this, we use artificial lighting with energy-efficient light sources (LED lamps).

Colour temperature is measured in Kelvin (K)

The most acceptable colour temperature for an average living space

is colour temperature 3500K to 4500K.

However, we should not forget the brightness of light on work surfaces – illumination (lux).

The physicist Ari Andries Kruithof conducted a survey of many people and drew up a graph showing the dependence of light comfort on its colour temperature and illuminance.

According to this graph,

If you know the lighting standards in the room, you can choose a comfortable colour temperature for different types of room. For example, for an LED light source with a warm colour temperature of 3000K, comfortable illumination is in the range of 150-600 lux.

There are tried and tested rules for choosing the right colour temperature for different rooms.

  • Warm light makes a room feel warm and cosy and is best for bedrooms and living rooms.
  • Cool (neutral) light is whiter and is best for rooms that require energy to work and concentrate, such as kitchens, bathrooms, garages and utility rooms.
  • Daylight This bright, bluish-white light is closest to midday on a sunny day.

It is ideal for reading, projects and other hobbies.

Cool light is better for rooms where you need extra attention to detail, such as bathrooms and kitchens.

But in this case, you need a high level of lighting to feel comfortable.

Modern LED light sources

allow you to change not only the colour temperature but also the brightness of the light and thus the illumination. These features are available in our brand’s Smart luminaires.

We pay a lot of attention to the quality of lighting. Violux Smart luminaires allow you to adjust the lighting to suit your mood and the type of work you are doing.

For this purpose, the luminaires use modern control systems based on a microcontroller.

Our Smart luminaires come with a convenient and easy-to-use remote control.

If you want to add colour to your home, our range has everything you need.

By installing a Smart LED luminaire, you can change the light in the room to simulate natural sunlight (5000-6000 K) to improve your performance during the day. It is also possible to minimise the effect of blue light at night, making it warmer and more relaxing (3000-3500 K).

The built-in ‘Nightlight’ mode allows you to create soft, comfortable lighting at night.
